Dallas Guitar Show 2009

img_03972Gbase goes on the road again to the 32nd  Annual Dallas International Guitar Festival.   One of the biggest and best attended guitar shows of the year. This years’ show proved to hold its own despite the early Saturday morning tornado watches and a day full of rain!  We got to talk to a lot of people, see some familiar faces that show up every year, and of course had some time to hang out with some of Gbase dealers that come to Dallas from all over the country.   We even got to meet one of the lucky winners of from our gear giveaways. The winner of the Roland GT-8 stopped by to say thanks for gear. If you’d like to sign up for our current contest, click here and sign up – we’re giving away a 1959 Silvertone Guitar, courtesy of Main Street Vintage. Many thanks to Jimmy Wallace and his team for putting on another great show!

Mike Reeder from Mike's Music

Mike Reeder from Mike's Music

Mike’s Music from Cincinnati, OH is one of our long time dealers and a regular at the guitar shows.   When I asked Mike what he picked up at the show this year, he went and grabbed this  rare, early 1957  Gibson Les Paul Standard Gold Top.  He let me know that one of the cool things about this piece is that is has 2 P-90 pickups, when most made in ’57  had been switched over to Humbuckers.   This guitar also features a Tune-o-matic bridge. Check out Mike’s Music on Gbase for this and other great guitars!

Another long time Gbase Dealer I ran into in Dallas is Tom Van Hoose.   Tom has recently become the 1st Benedetto dealer in Texas, and remains one of just two.  Here he is holding a 2009 Benedetto Bambino Deluxe in Honey Blonde that is handmade in Savanah, GA.  Tom told me that players love this guitar and they’re a great alternative to vintage electric archtops.   Click on the photo to find out more about this great guitar!

Robert from Music Magic

Robert from Music Magic

Let me introduce Robert from Music Magic – one of the nicest guys in the guitar biz!  It’s always a pleasure to talk with him at these shows, so I stopped by his booth to find out how he was doing and what he had for sale this year.  He showed me this 1966 Fender Mustang in a beautiful Daphne Blue (you have to see it in person, but believe me, its pretty sweet).  This guitar is all original except for the bridge cover – click the pic to contact Robert for more info.

Jay Rosen

Wow, a smile like this can only mean one thing – someone was having a great time in Dallas!  I saw this unfamiliar guitar in Jay’s booth and wandered in to find out more about it.  Jay, who’s another long time Gbase dealer,  just picked this guitar up at the show that morning.  It’s a rare 1956 Gibson EB1, completely intact.  What Jay explained to me that is even more rare is the case it comes with.  The case is all original brown with pink lining and a handle with the brown paint rubbed off. Underneath the brown paint on the handle is the true color of blue, and apparently all of these handles were a different color underneath – some pink, green, etc.. but all originally painted over with brown.

It’s always nice to see another guitar show and Gbase regular, Randy Cooper from Player Guitars in Jackson, TN.   He showed me this 1956 Gibson ES-140CT Sunburst in excellent condition.  This guitar features a thin neck, short scale, and comes in its original alligator case.  Click on the pic for more info!
