The coolest thing about all things Silvertone was that, because they were sold by Sears, if you busted it, you could get a new one because of Sear’s unconditional guarantee policy. Used to plug in 2 guitars, a bass and a mic into one of those twin twelve amps, play all night until it fired, then go get another one at the store! Ah, the good old days.
I stood for days at Montgomery Wards AND Sears drooling over the guitars and amps…Sears was clearly the HOT TICKET. ANd those amps…..I had the one with 6 10 inch speakers in it..it screamed……They should put these out again, they were real howlers…and my boyfriend played bass thru it…clean bass…that’s where Ampeg got their ideas from……..it would be so reet to have the past come back to me…………………………………………………………….
I own a couple silvertones one cheap one w/”lipstick” PU, and a semi-hollow body that ROCKS!!
great to see someone who knows how to use ‘reet’ in a sentence. Rat own, Marie . . .
THANX!
Like a ’59 Dano, another blast from the past to give boutique PRS’s a run for their money. And they probably get played more, too!
I have a mid-fifties Silvertone left to me by my brother.
It will go great with that Silvertone amp I just picked up
What a great present this would make for father’s day!!!
guitars are cool
I started out playing on a purple, two pickup, silvertone guitar with an amplifier built into the case. Man, this brings back memories!
I love these guitars, that sound is perfect for the blues that I like playing. Sadly I didn’t get a good look at the real days of silvertone, being as I’m only 18, but still, I love these things. If I won this thing, I would probably faint.
At the Sears store in Dallas, you picked your guitar out of the catalog ,put down a deposit and waited thirty days for delivery. They had a few demo guitars on display ,so I would go there on weekends and play JImmy Reed licks for hours until my guitar came in..
I’ve got a ’61 H70 that I will never part with… this 1420 would be a great addition….

I have a picture of myself playing a 58 U1 when I was & years old, (GREAT TIMES!!!). Wish I still had that, but it got away somehow.
My first guitar was a killer Monkey Ward (by Kay) dual pickup model. The guitar, amp, and cable set my dad back $59.95 in 1963, when I was ten. I used it for many years–I wish it had survived past the late 70′s. The pickups were potent enough to overdrive that little tube amp into some really sweet distortion at a reasonable volume. Super blues guitar. My late cousin had the Silvertone described in the giveaway. Great memories!
AS Frank (The ‘Zapped’) Zappa was Quoted at one time as saying (or Was it one of ALBUM COVERS?)… Well,” WEASELS’ RIPPED MY FLESH!” These Silvertone Guitars have a Great ‘Throwback’ Quality,as the One Pictured in the 1960 Catalogue is strangely Reminiscent of an instrument that Mssr. JIMMY Page Played on “White Summer”! That one was a 1957 /57C Model of The Now-Famous “DANELECTRO Guitar w/ one ‘lipstick’ Pickup”. Further, one wonders if the Tone and Handling of the SILVERTONE Instrument may compare with the DANELECTRO Model. Hopefully, the SILVERTONE Will retain some of the Immutable Characteristics!
See the guy above me? Doesn’t matter who he is, i’ll literally eat him alive for this guitar \m/
